Prize Frenzy™
After a lazy summer afternoon nap, Frenzor's™ in a surprisingly good mood, though of course even Frenzor™ in a good mood is a frightening beast that would scare the pants off anyone foolish enough not to regularly pick up dB and the quality articles and reviews. Still, now's as good a time as any to bug him for tickets to all those shows you've been aching to see, so if any of the following prizes take your fancy, call (08) 8231 0881 after the Triple J news theme at 1pm on Friday 28 November and answer a simple question to claim one. Just a reminder, though - you can't be a winner two editions in a row, and with the last edition for the year coming up, you'd better come in soon to pick up any outstanding prizes or they'll get wrapped up in brown paper and string.
1. The Adelaide International Guitar Festival's coming to town for a second instalment, and while this edition sees the rock of Adrien Belew and Grinspoon highlighted, there's plenty of other stuff to pique your interest. If you can answer Frenzor's_ question, you could win a major prize pack consisting of tickets to the events like Roots (Sun 30 Nov, Elder Park), Rock (Fri 5 Dec, Elder Park), Phat Bottom End (4pm Sat 6 Dec, Festival Theatre), Country (7:30pm Sat 6 Dec, Elder Park) and the AC/DC Tribute (Sun 7 Dec, Elder Park).
2. Like Highlander™, there can be only one Major Prize, which is why you'll have to answer a pretty tough question, but that's why there are also consolation prizes of double passes to the Rock Concert on Fri 5 Dec and the AC/DC Tirbute on Sun 7 Dec, both in Elder Park.
3. Speaking of Ac/DC, they're latest, 'Black Ice', gets a review in this issue, and thanks to Sony there are five copies to give away.
4. Also thanks to the folks at Sony is a prize pack of some great new Australian artists, with CDs from Lenka (whose self-titled debut is reviewed in this edition) as well as Augie March and Kate Miller-Heidke, who have also received glowing endorsements from dB writers in recent weeks.
5. Another fine Australian artist is C.W. Stoneking, and as well as playing at the Gov on Fri 5 Dec, he's just released his second album, 'Jungle Blues'. Aaron Farrant gives it the thumbs up in this edition, and there are three copies up for grabs.
6. You're unlikely to find a more exciting gig for what's left of this year than Japanese mop-tops The Bawdies and our own retro-revivalists The Basics, both playing catchy singalong rock and roll at Jive on Wed 3 Dec, and there's a double pass up for grabs if you promise to scream and shout all night long.
7. If it's all just a little too exciting, the perfect way to unwind may be at Moonlight Cinema, which returns for another season on Thurs 27 Nov with 'Vicky Christina Barcelona'. That one's a preview screening, but there'll be movies on six nights a week (they take Mondays off) all the way through to Sunday 15 February and Frenzor's™ giving his entire hoard of 20 double passes away to lucky readers.
8. Sneaking in just before the official start of Summer, Stereosonic is coming to Bonython Park on Sat 29 Nov. As well as Sneaky Sound System, acts like Carl Cox, Paul Van Dyk, Booka Shade, Infected Mushroom and Ajax will all be playing and there are three double passes to give away.
