Adelaide Fringe Festival 2006

Blind Date
Tutti Ensemble/Arts Access SA
Director: Pat Rix
Fowlers Live
Season Closed

Only the blind can pull off a cabaret show called 'Blind Date', filling it with witty tales of their lives as blind people seeking the possibilities in someone they've never met, cannot see but are eager to know, as much come to know their own feelings and passions better - to truly see - and encourage us to move beyond the lazy limitations sight can encourage.

'Blind Date' is an unforgettable show stopper with four singers and two brilliant musicians. Singers Michelle Thredgold, Annika Hooper, Emma Taylor and Jason Crowhurst have been blind from birth or early childhood, in cases having to cope with a degree of intellectual disability as well.

None of this has stopped them turning into outstanding singers individually and as an ensemble. Be it soul, the blues, rock they can belt it out with maturity and confidence of voice and style enough to play around as with classics like Sunshine and (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Women as the mood seizes them. Every song is a gem.

Pat Rix's arrangements are flawless, truly working to serve the power, passion and artistic ambition that are so evident in the cast. Chris Finnen delights with subtle guitar and a song of his own from his past.

It had to end. Another show was coming into the venue after them so the calls for encore went begging; a pity because they certainly looked ready to roll a few more numbers out.
