Prize Frenzy™!
If you are as sick of this gloomy weather as Frenzette is, it is good enough reason to enter Prize Frenzy this issue to keep the boredom at bay. She's been busy rustling up some nice goodies for all you readers out there, including double passes to some sure-to-be-fine shows coming up, and a whole pile of CDs to boot. Wait until 1pm on Friday 10 August, pick up the phone, dial this number 8231 0881 and tell us what yer afta.
1. Cover boys Maximo Park bring their live show to Adelaide on Sat 18 Aug playing at Fowler's Live, and Blake Lewis chats to guitarist Duncan Lloyd this issue about their quest for a unique sound. We have one double pass to the show thanks to Handsome Tours.
2. Scott Berry chats to Britt Daniel, vocalist and guitarist for US band Spoon this issue about all things 'Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga'. Thanks to Spunk, we have four of the aforementioned CDs to give away.
3. Garage rockers British India launch their recent release 'Guillotine' at Jive on Fri 17 Aug and in this issue Lauren Boxhall chats to guitarist Nic Wilson about the band, the album and quitting smoking. Thanks to Shiny Entertainment, we are handing over two double passes to the show above, so hop to it.
4. Country hero Ryan Adams is coming to town - Brett Allen-Bayes had a lengthy convo with the man himself in the lead-up to his Adelaide appearance, which you can read in this issue. Ryan and his band The Cardinals play Wed 22 Aug at Her Majesty's Theatre, and we have one double pass to give away, thanks to our good mates at Liberation.
5. Brett Allen-Bayes also gives his thoughts on Ryan Adams new disc 'Easy Tiger' this issue, and we have a couple copies to hand over to some lucky readers, thanks to Universal.
6. Korn have done it again, this time with their, rather interestingly, untitled album. Long-time fan Brad Holland chats with Fieldy, the band's bassist, this issue, and we have five of the CDs to give away thanks to Virgin/EMI.
7. Linkin Park have just announced a national tour to support their latest release 'Minutes To Midnight'. Ashley Prigent isn't too sure about it - read his review in the CD review pages - but you can make up your own mind with a Linkin Park 'Minutes To Midnight' Limited Special Edition pack which includes the CD, a MVI (Music Video Interactive) DVD, and a 32-page colour booklet. We have three to give away thanks to Warner.
8. Massive hardcore festival Sike Your Mind is heading our way, with headliners Carpathian ready to show how it's done. Mat Woods chats to the voice behind the band, Martin Kirby, this issue about their recent overseas tour and their upcoming festival appearances. Sike Your Mind hits Adelaide Fri 24 Aug at Fowler's Live where Carpathian plays with Miles Away, Down To Nothing, 50 Lions and Abandon All Hope, and we have two double passes to give away, thanks to Destroy All Lines.
9. Soon bringing their catchy indie rock to Adelaide, 1990s are celebrating the success of their debut album 'Cookies'. Blake Lewis thinks the Glasgow three-piece have created some nice fare for the ears (and so do dB after a quick consensus around the office) and so it's our feature album for this issue. We'd love to spread the love, so, thanks to Shock, we have three copies for you to enjoy.
10. Liam Finn recently graced the Adelaide stage - let's hope he'll back again to support his new release 'I'll Be Lightning', his first step into solo territory after fronting band Betchadupa. Simon Foster gives it his opinion in the CD review pages this issue, and thanks to Liberation we have three copies of this beauty to give away.
11. Pretty unbelievable but he's done it again. Yes, Ozzy Osbourne has released a new album 'Black Rain', which Steve Jones thinks is pretty darn good. For all those long-time fans out there, we have five copies to give away, thanks to Sony BMG.
