Feast Festival.
It comes around oh so quickly every year: November is Feast
month and this year's GLBTIQ cultural festival offers a smorgasbord
of delights for queers of every taste and persuasion; from platform
shoes to platforms for debate, from picnics in the park to cocks
in frocks.
"This year's Festival includes community events, visual and performing arts, a queer film festival, forums and workshops, and a special program of events for young people," said Artistic Director Fanny Jacobson.
"Our themes this year are Fetish, Family and Philosophy, encouraging artists and Feasters to engage with, and articulate, their feelings of who we are and where we are in the world in 2005," she said.
With that in mind, Feast kicks off with the Pride March through the city streets followed by a sensational opening night party taking in many of Adelaide's favourite gay and lesbian pubs and clubs.
Once again the Feast Hub is at Fowler's Live on North Terrace - the perfect setting for the start of opening night's Feast of delights. This will be the venue for the opening night entertainment extravaganza showcasing stunning festival highlights, cruise stalls, outdoor and indoor bars, great food, on the spot Feast event ticket sales and a friendly, queer crowd in a party mood, and then from 9pm the party moves to the city's favourite gay venues... the Ed, the Hampy, new club Lah di Dahs, the Grace Emily, and at the Mars Bar where DJs Fusion, BJ and Fraser will keep you on your toes until the tiny hours.
Between opening night on Fri 4 Nov and the closing day's Picnic In The Park on Sun 27 Nov there are over 120 events to keep you busy. Here's just a few of the delights on offer this year to tickle your fancy and stimulate your senses.
The Feast Show
Bigger! Better! Even more Amazing! The 4th Feast Show celebrates
queer homemade creativity. Mouth watering cakes, jams, fruit
and veggies, a plethora of pot plants, flowers, floral art,
quilting, leatherwork, knitting, and model trains are just some
of the crafts and collectables on show. New for 2005 is a queer
family photo exhibition and very queer collections by queer
collectors.
Sleaze Ball
Wake Up Queer Adelaide! It's time to Party. The Adelaide Sleaze
Ball on Sat 19 Nov promises to be the event not to be missed.
Featuring DJs from interstate and overseas including Matt Thomas
from TRADE UK, Paul Holden from Sydney, Ezee-G, HMC, Josh, Michael
Fraser, Pete Forester and Fusion shakin' up the dance floor.
Tales Of Desire In The Tunnel Of Love
Grind from Behind travel to Feast from their home in Sydney
to present these short tales of restless desire and unleashed
vanities bound together by love, lust and perversion. 'Tales
Of Desire...' is a divine collusion of film, performance, and
fetish with stunning costumes and amazing visuals. Two performances
only: Sat 5 and Sun 6 Nov.
Meet The Family
Margie Fischer delves into queer family life in two totally
different live TV style Chat Shows. Meet an astounding variety
of queer families including their pets, hear about their giddy
ups and tacky downs, taste family recipes cooked live on stage,
and meet Margie's famous family of performing dogs! At Fowler's
Live on Sat 19 and Sat 26 Nov.
Sista She - The Naked MC
Back by popular demand to Adelaide, Sista She are at large and
curvaceous. These 2 MCEE's bare their souls in a raw and political
night of Hip Hop poetry. With sly wit and razor sharper tongues
Sheila and Rasheda break it down, spin it and reverse it. This
time it's personal. At Fowler's Live on Fri 11 and Sat 12 Nov.
How Now Rick Lau
Rick Lau's totally gay one-man show is here for 3 performances
only. It's 3am and in the ghostly glow of a laptop a stooped
figure clicks away. What a day it's been. Meet the gay blogger
and all the other crazies in 'How Now Rick Lau'. The always
fabulous Rick Lau is accompanied by Lindsay Partridge. At Fowler's
Live from Thurs 17 Nov.
And there's plenty plenty more - pick up a Feast Festival program and plot your course.
