Most Precious Blood
+ Shotpointblank, Through Closed Eyes, Cry Murder
Wed 3 November, Enigma Bar
Apologies must be made to Cry Murder for missing their set, but from all accounts they played a good show. This was the first time I had seen Through Closed Eyes and they were quite impressive. Taking on more of a tough hardcore approach they worked through a visually appealing show; even playing a guitar solo with their teeth.
Shotpointblank have built a loyal following from years of playing and supporting the local punk/hardcore scene. They put in a solid and fun performance clearly enjoying the hometown leg of the tour. Judging from the warm response they received one might be mistaken for thinking they were headlining this show.
Most Precious Blood, New York City's finest, took the stage and immediately created a buzz. Lead singer Rob joked and talked to the crowd with great charisma and humour. As a band they uphold the same belief in animal rights and made an effort to inform people at the show with pamphlets and newsletters. One of the strong points about this group is their straight up hardcore approach, which hasn't been diluted or tainted by other musical styles.
Their breakdowns are technically brutal and they execute songs with
experience beyond their years. Songs like the show opener It Runs
In The Blood entice you to listen further, pulling you right in.
Material off their first album 'Nothing In Vain' proved the early
big guns of their proverbial hardcore arsenal with moments of greatness
like Sincerely and Heroes And Conspiracies. The greater
response came from their current release 'Our Lady of Annihilation'
as they blasted through a chilling rendition of The Great Red Shift,
the frantic paced Collusionist and the show stopper (my personal
favorite) Growing Square Eyes. Most Precious Blood must be
commended: they were flawless on stage and never let the intensity
drop.
