Brazilika (mixed by Kenny Dope)
Far Out Records/Inertia
Far Out Records has been one of the most influential independent London based record label that specialises in Brazilian inspired releases. Founded by Joe Davis, it was initially launched to feed UK's thirst for Brazilian jazz music, but it soon evolved to cater for other angles of Brazilian music, including electronic music. And to celebrate its 10 year anniversary, they have utilised superstar DJ/producer Kenny Dope (who is perhaps one of the most influential Latin electronic artists in modern times) to compile and mix together some of the freshest tracks from Brazil.
In true Far Out ideals, 'Brazilika' represents a wide gamut of musical
genres, whilst still preserving the essence of Brazilian music culture.
From the haunting ballad of Sertao, the jazzy Fibra
and the house-infused Estacao Verao, this album connects the
listener to the tremendous passion, fire and sense of celebration
synonymous with Brazilian music. Torcido De Flamengo perhaps
captures the Brazilian essence the most. With its heavy percussions
and whistles peppered throughout the track, you can't help but take
yourself to Carnivale.
Kenny Dope has compiled this mix of 20 tracks, and delivers it flawlessly, capturing the soul of each track. This album is a fitting celebration of a record label that chose to embrace one of world music's soulful treasures and then unselfishly share it with the rest of the world.
