Acquiescence.

As Acquiescence draws closer the artists involved are clearly getting more excited about being part of the event. "It's about diverse artistic talent in Adelaide coming together harmoniously," declares Areti of Areti Flamenco. "The lineup is a cross section of age, gender, and genre representation within our artistic community, and it should be a fabulous display of who we really are and what we really believe in as a community."

"And it's a gig," Nick from Sledgehammock shrugs. "We like gigs. We played at the last Acquiescence, which was cool - apart from the fact we were a completely different band back then - and we're really looking forward to this year's event 'cause weve got a whole new lineup now, and a stack of new songs."

Ben Gel is even more enthusiastic: "Acquiescence represents everything great about the Fringe. It presents cultural and artisitic diversity on a scale perhaps not seen in Adelaide before, and The Gels will bring what we have always done: unashamed loud original rock, no apologies."

"To us the essence of Acquiscence is about giving South Australian artists a chance to highlight and showcase themselves to the world," Masakari's Janie Hastwell suggests, "and perhaps be seen by icons in their artistic genre."

"And the lineup's great," Nick Sledgehammock adds. "It's a really good mix of Adelaide musicians and artists. There are heaps of bands that I haven't had a chance to see before, so I'm really looking forward to spending the whole day there. [Multi-genre shows] are a great way to introduce people to other types of music, and other mediums of art. I've been to a few shows lately that have showcased both art and music and I think they have a very different atmosphere to that of a normal pub gig. There's some weird artsy energy thing that goes on which really gives me a buzz!"

"And the line-up features something for everyone," Ben Gel points out, "from rock and pop to dancers, visual artists and DJs. If you can't find at least a couple of things that interest you, check for a pulse because you may very well be dead!"

Acquiescence is a Fringe event, and several of the artists seem particularly pleased that it's capping the festival off. "It's the conclusion to the whole event," Areti points out. "It will make me reflect back on what we have all collectively achieved."

"To tell you the truth, I think there could be a bit more local content in the Fringe," Ben Gel considers. "It's always astounded me that people are so keen to go out when the Fringe is on but there is still such a reluctance to check out local acts throughout the rest of the year. There are some great bands and artists around Adelaide, and sometimes its seems to me that the local scene is a bit underappreciated."

"Not enough local talent has been included in the past," Hastwell agrees. "We feel Acquiesence is trying to fill that void."

"The Fringe features fantastic artists from all over the country, and indeed the world," Ben Gel continues. "However, local content is very important as it allows us to showcase our wares to people that ordinarily wouldn't attend gigs. It's a time of year people say 'Let's get out and check out something different!' Apparently Adelaide is the world's second best Fringe; and local content must take a bit of credit for that. We are the Festival State after all!"

Acquiescence happens at Higher Ground (Pulteney St) on Sun 14 March.
